The cottage is most suited to adults who enjoy simplicity, seclusion,
feel comfortable using gas and solar facilities; and can limit themselves
to shortish showers, as we have only rainwater! It comfortably accommodates
up to 5 people, in three bedrooms (one with a queen size bed, another
with a double bed 
and the third with a double bunk).
It is self-contained, with doonas, blankets and pillows but no radio,
television, stereo or video as the emphasis is on providing guests a tranquil
ambience. A telephone is available for incoming calls and mobile phone
range is fine.
The cottage runs on 12volt solar electricity, with a 240volt inverter;
and has a gas fridge, heater, stove and hot water system. The inverter
is suitable for charging phones and running a radio or lap top computer.
The BBQ is a simple hot plate on rocks, and guests can collect firewood
from around the cottage.
Many of the animals,
bird and plant species found within the Park
are easily viewed from the large sundeck. Birds
include honeyeaters ,
lorikeets, osprey and white-bellied sea eagles .
Animals include wallabies ,
brush-tailed phascogales
and goannas. Plants include colourful shrubs such as mudgen berries and
boronias, and larger trees include banksias, pandanus palms and tuckaroos.
The sun-deck
is suitable for a variety of activities including birdwatching, meditation
and sketching. It has sweeping views
over Broadwater National Park and the distant hills of Bunjalung National
Park, as well as views of the Pacific Ocean. At night, you can see millions
of stars, the lights of Evans Head and the lighthouse at Byron Bay
.
The combined bathroom
and laundry are in a separate building, at the back
about 10 metres from the cottage. It has a bath, shower, toilet and two
laundry tubs. There is no washing machine, and the closest laundromat
is at Evans Head, about 12 kilometres to the south.
